So, I have reached my room in Dindigul. Actually I reached it yesterday but this is the first opportunity I have had with internet on my computer. Today, as I've been trying not to use the data on my phone, I sat outside in a chair and did pretty much nothing for like 2 hours (it was wonderful). Very easy to hook up to that nice nature-brewed WiFi out here.
My plane flight wasn't bad at all, although things don't work in foreign domestic airports like American domestic airports and I will need to continue reminding myself of that (made it on my connecting flight with minutes to spare). But it was all over quickly and I was warmly welcomed yesterday, I am the first "international student" that has ever stayed in this area and most definitely this hostel. Over the last 24 hours I have had my picture taken when I'm not looking, I've been asked to review food items (no, they do not know about the Yelping), and I've sweat clean through my clothes three times (no AC).
As soon as I arrived I was introduced to about 12 different people who were extremely excited to meet me and I was so happy that at least a few of them can speak English (because Tamil is HARD). Last night I ate cap dosa, a south indian pancake shaped like a hat, which was very good. This morning I had idli, some kind of rice blended thing (?) which was also great. Every meal I am surrounded by no less than three people who watch me eat (with my hands, its a Tamil tradition) and listen for every sound I make to see if I like what I am eating or if I want more chutney or if the food isn't spicy enough. Its slightly overwhelming but it is definitely nice to be treated with such hospitality.
This climate is much more ideal than New Delhi, the air is cleaner, the views are prettier, and the temperature is lower (although still hot, its about the same latitude as Colombia). Tomorrow I start working for WASHi here, so I'll post some more updates then, and I won't actually have WiFi until after tomorrow as what I am currently using is a wireless hot-spot that the owners of the hostel went to the store and bought for me this morning (!!!!). They have been very upfront that they want me to be happy and comfortable and have done nearly everything to ensure so. So that's nice. I'll get some Go-Pro footage/pics up once my 2 Mbps WiFi kicks in so you all can see how beautiful this place is.
Oh yeah. Yanaka tani piricum... "I like this water". I'll get better I promise :)
